Applications
The encapsulation of an active compound into RBCs is a technology platform which could potentially offer advantages in a wide range of applications and opens to unlimited new therapeutic approaches. Erythrocytes' surface can be modified by causing a selective drug targeting on Macrophages (immunity system cells involved also in HIV and Tubercolosis).
Moreover RBCs can be encapsulated with:
1. Toxic compounds to reduce their toxicity;
2. Magnetic nanoparticles, for avoiding their sequestration by liver thus allowing highly innovative Magnetic Resonance Imaging;
3. Contrast agents providing new promising diagnostic tools;
4. Proteins or peptides to increase their in-circulation life-span.
EryDel technology applications:
 |
EryDelivery: erythrocyte as a drug slow releasing system |
 |
EryTargeting: erythrocyte as a drug targeting system for the selective delivery in a specific cellular compartment |
 |
EryDiagnostic: erythrocyte as a diagnostic tool |
